When I signed on to do the Benjamin Moore Aura Interior Paint & Primer campaign from BzzAgent I was so excited. Not only excited to try a new product but excited to be able to redo a space in my home that has troubled me for a while, the closet exterior.
As you can see by the picture above on the left is what the closet looked like when I started. Dirty and with very girly stencils painted on each door.
Since the walls in the room are a neutral eggshell color (which I hope to change this summer) I decided to go with a yellowish brown shade from their Affinity color palette. AF-345 Honeymoon is the shade my husband and I agreed on. Direct from the Benjamin Moore website the description of this color is a golden yellow with brownish undertones, honeymoon can give any room a snug, cozy feeling and, depending on the lighting, it can be used as a rich, deep neutral beige.
When I got the paint from the local hardware store, I was surprised when the store manager said it costs like $68.00 for the gallon and I was very lucky to get it for free and also that it is generally a paint used by contractors and in new construction. The paint has great benefits and comes in 4 different finishes of matte, eggshell, satin and semi-gloss.
I chose the eggshell finish for my project. When I got home and opened the can of paint I was pleasantly surprised that there was not an immediate overwhelming odor. The paint needed a light mix before starting and then I started applying it. The paint was thick and clung to the brush bristles well. When I touched the paint to the closet it glided on smoothly and did not drip or splash back. I noticed it went on evenly and provided great coverage in just the first coat. I then let the first coat set for a short while and went over with a 2nd coat just to ensure total coverage. The second coat again dried fairly quickly and there was no lingering after scent. The cleanup was simple as well. All it took was soap and water and a small amount of light scrubbing and the paint was gone from my hands.I soaked the brushes in a can of warm soapy water and they were as good as new.
For the finished product - as you can see above by the picture on the right, that the paint covered the stencils and it looks clean and fresh now!
Although the price point for a gallon of this paint is approximately $67.99 according to the Benjamin Moore website, it would be worth it to use on larger spaces as you will save the money on not having to buy a primer to use underneath the paint. I will definitely consider using this paint again in my home for another re-decorating project. If you choose not to use this specific line I still do highly recommend Benjamin Moore products!
