CHRISTMAS VILLAGE

Decorate it forward is my pursuit!

I signed on to this Smiley360 mission to help spread the Christmas cheer I feel every year at this time.  I do the whole enchilada. What is that you may ask? Well, its some form of Christmas in every room in my house. When I say every room, I mean EVERY room. From the decorative dishtowels and rug in the kitchen to the shower curtain and soaps in the bathroom!

I love love love Christmas decorating.

When Smiley360 offered this 'mission' and a $15.00 gift card to shop at Kmart and begin my quest of the perfectly decorated home, of course I signed up with the hope of being accepted. When I was accepted and received my gift card quickly I was so happy.  I couldn't wait to go out and shop. Well then Superstorm Sandy hit and the holidays were the furthest thing from my mind. On top of that then we had an early nor'easter which dumped about 4 inches of snow on us and then I saw it as a sign that I needed to get out there and think about my yearly Christmas theme. Well less of a theme and more of a color scheme.

I was finally able to get out to my local Kmart today and I was so pleased at the array of decorations they had to offer.  I ended up purchasing a few sets of the red and green and gold ornaments as shown in the first picture as they were on sale this week. I also picked up two indoor holiday rugs and a pair of Christmas socks for me to wear on Christmas eve as well. The best part was I used the gift card from Smiley360 and as I was already a member of ShopYourWay rewards I had  ~$13 in credits to use which basically covered my entire purchase!

So, this year I am actually doing two things for Christmas.  The first one making me happy is using green/gold/red as the major colors in my decorating. This may seem a little normal as those are the colors of Christmas anyway and anyone knowing me might think I have a tendency towards the less Christmas-sy colors of pink, purple or blue, however I have done the off-Christmas colors for afew years running now and decided to go back to the roots of the holiday.

The 2nd  thing I have chosen to do is to go through all of my Christmas decorations which I have accumulated over the years and decide what I can part with and what I really want to keep, and donate them to a women's shelter.  That to me really is decorating it forward and it is after all what Christmas is all about - The Season of Giving!

Thank you again Smiley360 for the Kmart gift card and for allowing me to "Decorate it Forward!"

Strong, Functional Umbrella

This is absolutely the best umbrella I have owned in a long time!  It is functional and fashionable!  I bought the turquoise blue because I am so tired of the sea of black umbrellas I see every time it rains.  I wish more people would have bright colored umbrellas to brighten up those dreary rainy days.  But I regress... This umbrella is different from the moment you get it home.  You can see the difference in just the opening of it when you see the sleeve it comes in and the material the sleeve is made of.  The umbrella is made of that same material. It is thicker than your standard umbrellas you can see that and the material feel is soft yet durable. When you see the handle it has the auto open/close button and a wrist strap.  The feel of the handle is almost like those plush microfiber materials yet made of plastic.  It felt very comfortable in hand and did not slip. When you finally open the umbrella there is a black 'powdercoat' on...

The Scent of Christmas - All Year!

I love the smells of Christmas!  Pine trees, cold air, snow, and of course, Peppermint! I recently discovered the benefits of pure essential oils for health, wellness and home uses.  It was recommended to me that I try using an oil product in my diffusers/humidifiers in order to help clear up my sinuses.  Right now it is cold and flu season although it is unseasonably warm in the NorthEast.   I found this product and researched the company and learned a lot about them and the products they make.  They are community oriented and based in the United States.  I have used this now for a few weeks and find that my friends were spot on.  It soothes my nasal issues and I find that I breathe easier.   The scent is strong but not overbearing.  Some scents can make you cough and your eyes burn, but not these.  I find it brings great memories of Christmastime and heath and home. It also is great to ward off those little rodents in your h...

True Coffee Deserves True Flavor

My old friend Crowdtap is at it again. They have been partnered with the Folgers brand for a while now.  Folgers has truly grown as a brand over the past few years and now with this product, they have show to be a true competitor in this market. My best memories of the Folgers brand was an old commercial where a college student comes home for Christmas and wakes up his family by making a pot of Folgers coffee. But I regress. I love these Folgers Flavors coffee enhancers.  They come in 4 varieties, Vanilla, Mocha, Hazelnut, and Caramel. You can use as small an amount or as large an amount to bring the flavor out in your coffee to suit your needs.  The aroma of a truly hot cuppa when adding these is reminiscent of a true coffeehouse brewing which can get pricey if done every day.  Here is a less expensive alternative that allows you to get your much needed flavor rush while enjoying a casual java.  At least that's my opinion. The Vanilla is my f...
