UNREAL...Its the only word for this type of candy with no Artificial color, no Artificial Flavors, No Corn Syrup and No Hydrogenated oils.
When I first got into this BzzAgent campaign to try this new candy, I was a little leery that anything that takes out all the bad stuff that makes junk food taste good would probably taste awful. I signed up anyhow thinking what could it hurt.
Upon arrival of my Bzzkit full of coupons for these candies, I immediately went in search of them. They were a little difficult to find at first, but I suppose most new products are. I finally found them at a store in New Jersey near my office.
I purchased the Unreal 41: Candy Coated Chocolates, Unreal 5: Chocolate Caramel Nougat Bar, and Unreal 77: Peanut Butter Cups. The packaging looks like an 80's video game with a make on a black background. The 'maze' actually spells UNREAL. I took them home and stuck them in the refrigerator as I like my chocolate candies in a cold state.
I decided to try the Candy Coated Chocolates first. They were delicious. The coloring used for the candy shell are made from natural ingredients like beetroot, turmeric and cabbage juice. They made the colors less vivid than the competitor but all the same you are not eating the candy for its color. The chocolate was smooth and less sweet which makes it a good alternative to the 'name brand'.
I split the Caramel Nougat Bar and the Peanut Butter cups with my husband. Again in each of these the chocolate was smooth and less sweet. The caramel was a little drier than those in the commercial name brands and gave it a little more texture when eating. The peanut butter tasted more like real peanuts and was smoother than the commercial brand and definitely tasted great! My husband had a preference of the peanut butter cup as well.
Overall the product is a good idea and I have and will continue to recommend, however the company needs a little work on marketing and availability.
