When I was a child and had the beginnings of a scratchy throat or dust cough, I remember my mother handing me a Pine Bros Honey or Cherry Softish Throat drop. They were a balm to my throat and a memory made to cherish. My mother was the only person who knew what to give me when I had these little non serious ailments.
Upon popping the drop in my mouth I would let it slowly dissolve and it felt like the melting drop was coating my throat with something to stop the tickle or scratch and it was way better than those nasty throat sprays or prescriptions by the dreaded doctors.
The honey flavored were actually my favorite because to me the taste was like fresh honey from the jar just in a manageable drop without the stickiness and mess of jar honey. I could really savor the flavor and even the aroma was like honeysuckle flowers! The cherry ones were also good but more tart rather than sweet which made the product diversified having the contrast of the two.
These drops were a staple in the house during those long winters and I was really disappointed when the company stopped distributing them around my teen years because hard candies and throat lozenges never really worked as well as these little gummy miracles for me.
I was so pleased when the company came out again a few years ago with the original recipes and I was able to find the product locally. Lo and behold, it brought back those wonderful childhood memories of mom and still works like a charm to soothe those silly little throat nuisances. The honey still tastes fresh and clean and reminds me of straight out of the jar and the cherry still has that slight tartness that reminds me of a cherry tree on a spring day.
I say go out and buy them the next time you feel that little tickle in your throat that generally means nothing and try them. They are awesome!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
